TRENTON - Legislation to make it easier to vote by mail in New Jersey elections is headed to Gov. Jon S. Corzine's desk.
Under the bill, voters would need to register only once for a mail-in ballot and wouldn't have to request one each time there is an election.
They currently need to reapply for mail-in ballots for most elections.
Specifically, the measure allows voters to choose how often they want to vote by mail. They can choose to vote by mail for all future general elections, to vote by mail in all elections that occur within a calendar year, or to vote by mail in only an individual election.
The Senate approved it today by a vote of 24-14, sending it to Corzine.
