Celebrate opening of new fitness studio with Relentless Fitness
Come party with Relentless Fitness this weekend as they unveil their spacious new personal-training studio.
Relentless Fitness, the staple personal training studio of Washington Square West for the past five years, is relocating this weekend.
The gym – Philadelphia's unofficial obstacle race training studio – is getting a much-needed makeover as it moves from 249 South 10th Street to their new digs at 722 Chestnut Street.
Co-owner Roger Dickerman said the gym needed to expand for the past 2 years and the lease expiring gave them just the push they needed.
"It was important for us to stay in the neighborhood," he said. "Most people are happy about the move."
They'll be leaving behind an awkward layout that saw clients gingerly stepping around other clients, and into their new, roomy 3,000 square foot facility this weekend.
The new fitness center will still feature a split space between kids and adults, but the addition of five personal training "modules" that can accommodate a trainer and up to two clients has Relentless most excited. Think of it as five mini-gyms in one.
"The module concept allows the trainer to take a client to one, and they [the client] still get the community of seeing other people train, but they never have to walk over those people or compete for equipment. Each module has all the equipment you would ever possibly need for a personal training sessions," Roger said.
Certain modules will be specifically suited for different goals; such as one more kettlebell oriented while another will be more speed and agility focused.
The kids' side of the gym, led by co-owner Marissa Pellegrino, greatly benefited from the added space, and the results have been almost immediate. Their competitive girls' gymnastics team was able to double in size from 15 to 30. They'll also be supplied with new equipment like full bars, a full beam and a vault, tools that previously had to be accessed remotely.
For the adults, their indoor class program is shifting to a group-training program, which basically just limits the attendance to eight people.
"We're treating everything like personal training sessions. We want to provide more individualized attention to clients," Roger said.
And, yes, their popular outdoor obstacle course race-training program will still be around. They kick off their training Sunday, April 26, with their eyes set on the July suburban Spartan.
This Sunday, April 12, Relentless Fitness will hold a grand-opening party from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. All are welcome to come celebrate, with food and drinks being provided. At 2 p.m. there will be a mock ribbon cutting, but you'll definitely want to stick around for a demonstration from the girls' gymnastics team as they show off their skills on the new equipment starting at 2:30 p.m.
