Kristen Stewart raised $500,000 for Hurricane Sandy relief by hanging out with a prince

Rich people and the eccentricities. The New York Times has published a lovely little anecdote they collected from the Toronto International Film Festival. The Times' Michael Cieply was able to catch up with movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who offered up a story about 12.12.12, the documentary about the massive Hurricane Sandy relief concert held at Madison Square Garden. (You might remember the infamous hug between Governor Chris Christie and The Boss.)

Basically, everybody's favorite I Don't Give a Sh** actress, Kristen Stewart, was there and a Middle Eastern prince was hellbent on making her acquaintance. Weinstein says he negotiated a deal that saw the prince donate $500,000 to the relief fund to meet K-Stew, who sat down and talked with the guy for 15 minutes.

One story involved the actress Kristen Stewart. Mr. Weinstein described persuading her to accept an offer from a Middle Eastern prince, who said he would make a large contribution to the Sandy relief effort if she would speak with him.

"How much?" Ms. Stewart asked, according to Mr. Weinstein.

He checked with the prince, who proposed a figure, which Mr. Weinstein promptly raised to $500,000.

The money was delivered in advance, in cash, Mr. Weinstein said.

Mr. Dolan locked it up in Madison Square Garden, he said. "And Kristen sits with the guy for 15 minutes." [NYTimes]
