Bottom Dollar selling its stores to Aldi

The parent company of Bottom Dollar Food announced Wednesday night that it would sell all 66 stores in Pennsylvania, including 46 in the Philadelphia region, to grocery retailer Aldi Inc.

The parent company of Bottom Dollar Food announced Wednesday night that it would sell all 66 stores in Pennsylvania, including 46 in the Philadelphia region, to grocery retailer Aldi Inc.

Bottom Dollar will continue to operate until the end of the year, when all the stores will close, the Delhaize Group announced. Bottom Dollar will offer severance and career transition services for its 2,200 employees.

A spokesman for Aldi could not be reached for comment Wednesday night about the company's plans for the locations.

The first Bottom Dollar Food opened in 2010 in King of Prussia. Twenty of the 66 stores are located in the Pittsburgh region. - Robert Moran
