Five dead in city shootings

A killing spree this morning began with a triple homicide outside a Southwest Philadelphia bar and ended with two more shooting deaths in other parts of the city. The deaths bring the total homicides this year to 233, on pace to be the highest in a decade.

Police said there are no suspects and no arrests in any of the three cases.

Police said an argument inside Abay Wheeler's Bar on South 62nd Street shortly after midnight led to four men being shot multiple times by a lone gunman. Three died and the fourth is in critical condition, said Police Sgt. William Gallagher.

The deceased are Arthur Jennings, 20, and Claude Snelling, 30, both of the 6200 block of Reedland Street, and Jamar Thompson, 31, of the 5700 block of Windsor Street. Neighbors said Snelling's girlfriend is Jennings' mother and the three lived together.

Around 2:15, a 23-year-old man was shot once in the back of the head after he left Hong Kong Restaurant and Chinese Food To Take Out at 54th Street and Arlington in the Wynnefield section. His body was found across the street.

Family friends identified him as Charles Tunstall, of the 5400 block of Diamond Street.

Three hours later, there were more gunshots, this time in the 1700 block of Dauphin Street in North Philadelphia. An unidentified man was found on the sidewalk and was later pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital.
