Police say the incident began when two men approached a group sitting on a porch on the 4000 block of North Broad Street in Hunting Park-Nicetown section about 3 a.m. and demanded their money and sneakers.
Gunfire erupted and three men were shot in the back and two others suffered leg wounds, police said.
All but a 34-year-old man were in stable condition at either Temple University Hospital or Albert Einstein Medical Center. That victim was in critical condition at Temple with a back wound.
The victims were uncooperative, police said.
CBS3 reports that a woman who lives in the house said one of the robbers apparently was a family member.
Police declined to comment on that.
