Lawyer: Dad shoved by SEPTA officer paid fare

The toddler-toting man who was shoved into a subway train's wall Thursday by a SEPTA police officer for allegedly ignoring the fare box is claiming he deposited a token.

Ellis Smith, 20, was sitting with his daughter, who is about 1 to 2 years old, on his lap when officer William Crawford confronted him on the train at the Erie-Torresdale stop.
