A teenage boy faces assault charges for allegedly wielding a knife during a melee just past midnight Saturday that left him with a gunshot wound.
The 17-year-old was among a group of approximately 10 young men who showed up at a house on the 4300 block of Greenmount Road in the Northeast. They kicked down the door around 12:10 a.m. and began assaulting a 26-year-old man and 42-year-old-man, Lt. Michael Gross of Northeast Detectives said.
During the fight, someone threw a 40-ounce beer bottle at a 49-year-old woman in the house, hitting her in the stomach. The 17-year-old then walked toward her with a knife, threatening to cut her in the neck, police said.
The woman pulled out a .22 caliber gun and fired a warning shot into the air. She had a license to carry the gun, Gross said, reading from the police report.
When the 17-year-old continued toward her, the woman shot him once in the stomach, according to police.
Police would not identify the young man because he is a minor. He had been arrested previously on a vandalism charge, Gross said.
The attackers fled in a gold vehicle. The 17-year-old was later driven to Aria Health-Torresdale Campus.
The 26-year-old man who was assaulted had several bite marks to his back and lacerations to his face and body. The 42-year-old man reported no injuries.
The 17-year-old was charged with aggravated assault with a knife and related charges.
The motive for the attack was in dispute.
