MILLVILLE, N.J. - A teenage boy drowned while trying to retrieve a fishing pole he lost in a New Jersey river.
The 15-year-old, whose name was not released, was fishing along the bulkhead at Riverfront Park in Millville when he dropped his pole into the Maurice River about 7:30 p.m. Friday. Witnesses say the youth jumped into the water and began struggling and screaming for help before going under. Millville police soon responded, and at least four officers jumped into the water looking for the teen, but poor visibility and river conditions hampered their efforts.
The boy's body was found about an hour after he disappeared, and his death was ruled an accident. - AP
