Eagles, Marvel Comics team up to create Brian Dawkins poster
The Eagles, Marvel Comics, and AAA have teamed up to commemorate the career of Brian Dawkins with a super-unique poster depicting the future Hall of Famer as the X-Men's Wolverine.
Dawkins was never subtle in his affinity for the mutant superhero: his locker was stuffed with Wolverine figures and his nickname, 'Weapon X', comes from a spin-off series of comics starring Wolverine. Even his famous pre-game psyche-up routine was inspired by Wolverine.
It's only fitting that the Eagles will pay tribute to the real-life Weapon X by partnering with Marvel Comics. Artist Jorge Molina inked #20 in a classic Wolverine pose at midfield of Lincoln Financial Field, with the Philadelphia skyline in the background.
"Every week, Eagles fans witnessed Brian transform himself from a humble, mild-mannered man to the fearless competitor that he was on Sundays," said Eagles President Don Smolenski in a press release. "He was a special player – ferocious, intense, fearless, intelligent – and on top of that, he was an incredible leader. His connection with our fans was one-of-a-kind, which is why we are excited to be working with Marvel and AAA to provide those fans with a souvenir that captures Brian in his element as 'Weapon X.'"
The statement continues: "A peaceful family man while off the field, once he donned his #20 jersey, Brian Dawkins -- inspired by and embodying the best traits of the tenacious and unstoppable Wolverine -- was one of the most intense, hard-hitting, resilient and respected players in the history of the game. Marvel is excited and honored to partner with the Eagles and AAA in honoring one of Philly's finest."
