2-year-old was shot in another night of gun violence in Philly

A total of eight people were shot, two fatally, in just over four hours, police said.

A 2-year-old boy was shot Saturday night in Philadelphia, just one victim in an overnight stretch of gun violence that included at least eight people shot, two fatally, in just over four hours.

The child was shot twice in the back at 8:36 p.m. inside a home in the 2200 block of North 20th Street in North Philadelphia and was taken to Temple University Hospital in a private vehicle, according to police.

No arrests had been made, nor weapons recovered, and police on Sunday had not provided further details about the circumstances of the shooting.

Police provided the following accounts on the subsequent shootings:

At 11:39 p.m. Saturday, a 32-year-old man was shot once in the abdomen and a 37-year-old man was shot once in the lip at Lindenwood and Jefferson Streets in the city’s Wynnefield Heights section. Both were in stable condition at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

At 11:56 p.m., there was another double shooting, this one on the 5500 block of Pemberton St. in West Philadelphia. A 34-year-old man was shot in the chest and a 26-year-old man was shot once each in the chest, groin, and left thigh.

The younger man was pronounced dead at Penn Presbyterian at 12:38 a.m. Sunday. The 34-year-old was in stable condition at University of Pennsylvania Hospital.

At 12:30 a.m. Sunday, a 25-year-old man was shot once in the left shoulder at 48th and Spruce Streets in West Philadelphia and taken to Lankenau Medical Center, where he was in stable condition.

At 12:31 a.m., a 41-year-old man was shot three times in the head on the 1400 block of West Girard Avenue in North Philadelphia. He was pronounced dead at Temple at 12:52 a.m.

And at 1:05 a.m., a 45-year-old man was shot once in the left leg on the 3100 block of North 25th Street in North Philadelphia. He was in stable condition at Temple.

No arrests were made in those incidents.
