Accuser Beverly Johnson forgives Bill Cosby on ‘Good Morning America’

Former model Beverly Johnson has forgiven Bill Cosby over an alleged 1980s drugging incident.

"I forgive you," Johnson said on Good Morning America today when asked what she'd say to Cosby if given the chance.

Despite her perspective there, however, Johnson explained further that Cosby ought not be exonerated on her pardon alone. Ultimately, what happens to Cosby, in her mind, is up to the U.S. Justice Department.

"I'm going to leave that to the Justice Department," she said. "I just feel that he's a lightning rod for a much bigger conversation, and that conversation would be the rape culture in America."

Johnson first detailed an alleged incident with Cosby in a December Vanity Fair essay, describing the comedian taking her to his Manhattan home for a Cosby Show audition on two occasions. The second time, Johnson claims, Cosby drugged a coffee he made for her, but she was able to make an escape before any potential sexual assault occurred.

"In the end, just like the other women, I had too much to lose to go after Bill Cosby," she wrote in the essay. "I had a career that would no doubt take a huge hit if I went public with my story."

Cosby has never been charged with a crime in connection with the dozens of sexual assault accusations against him. Most recently, Cosby was denied a motion to investigate the release of a damning 2005 deposition in which he admitted to obtaining quaaludes to give to women before sex.
